Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community located in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" location. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond her dance partner. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. The moment I outgrew any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In the instance of Brugel, it was an urging by her drama teacher. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in her school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the annual school production. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Through the years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on small and big screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the role in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
